24Hour Heartbreak

The Britcar 24 hour race ended in dissapointment for APO Sport team and its driver's as for the first time this season they didn't classify.

The weekend's forecast was glorious sunshine making it an ideal event for spectators but so no much the drivers in the car. However APO overcame these issues and qualified 3rd in class, achieving this feat with the minmum of laps necccesary to qualify, 3 per driver, with the fastest lap coming in the night qualifying session.

Race day on the sunday was an equally sunny affair and the race could not have got off to a better start with Alex Osborne at the wheel he sat 1st in class at the two hour mark and 10th overall in the entire field.

Guy Parr was second in the car and was putting in consistently good times until a braking drama meant he outbraked himself and had contact with last year's winning ferrari and two other cars, the resulting damage meant an un-planned pit stop to replace the whole front corner of the car. The team went into action mode and the car was back on circuit within 25 minutes with James May now at the wheel and in recovery mode. The two hour stint went without a hitch and the car and team were clearly the fastest car in class for the whole duration, something which remained when Alex osborne resumed his next stint.

A long safety car period then took hold due to an injured marshall, with Guy Parr at the wheel he compelted a patient stint and under Green put in his best time of the race.

Ten Hours into the race however disaster struck, running in 5th place in class and catching the leading cars all the time after being as low as 13th, James May made a mistake under braking resulting in the car entering the armco barriers very hard and bringing a premature end to the race and the car.

The team now has there work cut out to completely re-shell the car before the last round of the championship at Brands Hatch, where the team just need a 5th place finish to gaurantee the title, consolation for the huge dissapointment of the 24 hour of which the team was very confident of a win.
